Artist Spotlight: Flóra Borsi

Flóra Borsi is a Hungarian artist who has inserted herself into significant moments in history to explore how these moments would have been affected by social media.  The photo manipulation series is called Time Travel.  I loved trying to find her in the midst of a bunch of crazed teenaged girls or eaves dropping on Andy Warhol.  It does make you think about how when we are shocked or impressed by something these days, the first thing we do is pull out our iphones to take a picture or video, instead of enjoying the moment for what it is.

See if you can find Flóra throughout her time travels...some are definitely more difficult than others.

A Saturday Song...

This morning started out a little different than most mornings.  It was quiet.  I woke to two dogs jumping on the bed, competing with one another to see who was going to get me to rise out of my coma.  For a minute I was absolutely confused.  Usually, it's two crazy little girls who have the same intention as the dogs...but not this morning.  Jason and the girls camped out in the backyard last night.  A little adventure to start out the weekend.  I chose to be the party pooper this go round.  I opted for a warm comfy bed and a doggy wake up call : )

I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

The Friday Five...

{ I can't imagine ever having an unhappy meal while eating at this table }

{ we are loving our new hatchlings...momma bird chose the most random place to build her nest...the corner post of our fence.  She gets nervous a lot, but the girls are loving it }

{ I LOVE this baby gift to my cousin.  Such a sweet thing to have in your baby's room }

{ almost finished with Isabella's desk...one small IKEA Viitsjo hack is the perfect solution }

{ one of the craft projects from Isabella's class.  Such a cute idea! : )  }

Fabulous Food: Spinach & Artichoke Grilled Cheese Sandwich

I wish I could claim responsibility for this amazing sandwich, but alas, I can not.  This creation is straight out of the brilliant mind of Joy the Baker.   If you like spinach & artichoke dip and you like grilled cheese, you will love this sandwich.

I came across this recipe one rainy day last week and had to make it as soon as I saw it.  It is sooooo good.  And the best part was that I had everything I needed in my pantry and fridge.

Ingredients:

splash of olive oil
1 small clove garlic
3 cups (or 3 big handfuls) baby spinach
4 slices bread (I used sourdough)
about 2 tablespoons cream cheese
1/3-1/2 cup grated or crumbled jack cheese
2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
1/2 cup coarsely chopped canned artichoke hearts, drained
1 heaping tablespoon sour cream
1/2 to 1 teaspoon sriracha
large pinch of sea salt
1 tablespoon butter, for grilling the sandwiches

Directions:

Sandwiches are very personal so the ingredients above are entirely flexible and up to you!

In a small skillet, heat olive oil over medium-low heat.  Add garlic and saute for 30 seconds.
Add spinach leaves and saute until wilted.  This should happen quickly.  Spinach just wilts in a hot pan.  Remove spinach from skillet, place in a medium bowl and set aside.

Spread each slice of bread with a bit of cream cheese.  You don’t need much.  We’re using it as edible sandwich glue.

Squeeze or press as much liquid as possible out of the canned artichoke hearts using a paper towel.

To the bowl of sautéed spinach add, jack cheese, Parmesan cheese, chopped artichoke hearts, sour cream, sriracha, and salt.  Stir until combined.

Top two slices of bread with spinach and artichoke filling.  Make sandwiches with the two remaining slices of bread.

Heat butter in a skillet over medium-low heat.  Add sandwiches and grill until each side is golden and the insides are melty warm.  Serve immediately.

(This recipe comes directly from Joy the Baker)

Just like Joy said, the ingredients are flexible.  I used what I had in my pantry and fridge- I used Tuscan pane instead of sourdough, white cheddar instead of jack cheese and I did not use sriracha.

Have you seen this?...Baby & Me Evian commercial

I literally saw this 10 seconds ago...and had to share.  I am a sucker for cute babies. And cute babies getting their groove on is a no brainer : )

This commercial is a follow-up to the adorable Roller Baby commercial from a few years ago.

Do you remember it?

Which one do you think is better? I remember loving the roller babies, but I don't think I have ever seen anything cuter than that darn mustached baby.  He has won my heart : )

Artist Spotlight: Diego Fazio

I really don't know what to say first...except maybe THIS IS NOT A PHOTO.  Once you have wrapped your head around that...which I don't know is actually possible... look at the photos of this drawing in progress.  And yes, I said drawing.  My mind has been blown!

Diego Fazio, also known as DiegoKoi, is an Italian artist that produces such hyper-realistic artwork, that he has been accused of faking the drawings.  There is even a snopes page dedicated to the accusation.  Hence the "in-progress" photos.  I can understand the impulse to doubt...his skill is so astounding that it is hard to believe.  It took him over 200 hours to complete the drawing above.

Check out a few of his other drawings below.

A big thank you to John for introducing me to Diego's work : )

A Saturday Song...

I had a completely different plan for the weekend...until Jason mentioned that Isabella's room looks pitiful...it is basically empty with the exception of a bed and two unfinished projects.  That is all I needed...the plan has changed and I think Jason is a bit irritated that he was the one that mentioned it : )

So...we are working on Isabella's headboard...completing her desk transformation... hemming drapes...deciding on artwork...and sewing euro shams.  Or should I say, I am doing all of those things, while Jason watches the girls?  By now, I know how these things go : )

Here is a song for your Saturday...

What do you have planned for the weekend?

No matter what it is...I hope you have a wonderful time doing it!
